Let's get it sorted
Logan City Council
Logan, Queensland’s third-largest city, was dealing with a persistent problem. Nearly 30% of all recycling loads were being sent to landfill due to contamination – the result of public misconceptions around what could and couldn’t go in the yellow-lid bin.
Research revealed that when unsure, most people don’t check the facts, relying instead on gut instinct or best guesses. This meant many were mistakenly putting non-recyclables in the wrong bin, genuinely thinking they were doing the right thing.
To help clear (and clean) things up, a playful behaviour change campaign was launched, fronted by a few unlikely faces who knew all too well the effects of well-intended recycling gone bad: the containers themselves. This, combined with the introduction of a new educational visual device, means Logan is now on its way to getting its recycling sorted.
